Check sender in Gmail and Outlook on the web
Fromensics adds a Check sender button under the sender of the email you open, in Gmail and Outlook on the web. It checks one email at a time, only when you ask.
Check sender, under the sender
Click it and the side panel opens with the report. The button then shows the same answer, in the same words and colours:
Check senderDon’t pay · lookalike addressDon’t sign inCheck before you replyNothing looks offVerified · Sterling CooperNew signature · confirm it’s themChanged after signing
While it works it shows Checking…. If the panel doesn’t answer within 12 seconds, it goes back to Check sender so you can try again.
Trust badges in the inbox
Turn on Trust badges in Gmail in Settings to see a small badge on emails before you open them. Badges show only what a signature or your trusted senders prove: Verified, You signed this, New signature, Changed after signing and Lookalike address. Everything else stays Check sender until you click. Badges are off by default.
Keyboard shortcut
Press Alt+Shift+F to check the email that’s open. You can change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Where it works
| Works? | |
|---|---|
| Gmail in Chrome (mail.google.com) | Yes |
| Outlook on the web: outlook.live.com, outlook.office.com, outlook.office365.com, outlook.cloud.microsoft | Yes |
| Outlook desktop app, Apple Mail, phone mail apps | No. They can’t run Chrome extensions. Paste suspicious text into Check anything instead. |
Home and recent checks
With no email open, the side panel shows Check anything and your recent checks, each with a coloured dot and a short answer like Don’t pay or reply, Check before you reply or Verified sender. They’re kept on this computer: the last 50 on Free, 500 on Pro. You can erase them in Settings.
If something doesn’t load
- If Gmail hasn’t finished loading the message, wait a second and check again, or paste the original from ⋮ → Show original.
- If the Check sender button is missing, reload the mail tab once after installing or updating Fromensics.
Questions
Does Fromensics need access to my Gmail or Outlook account?
No. It reads the email you open, on the page, in your browser. It doesn’t use the Gmail API or Microsoft Graph, and it never asks for account access.
Does it scan my inbox in the background?
No. It checks an email only when you click Check sender, press the shortcut, or paste something in. Trust badges only compare senders with your trusted list and signatures.
